Crispiano e Riserva naturale Bosco delle Pianelle

From Crispiano you reach Bosco delle Pianelle.

“By linking paths 7c and 7a, you reach the tratturo driveway near the centuries-old Albero del Capitano.

The first part is large and easy: it crosses the fragneto (wood forest) area.

The second part is initially large and easy, after which the vegetation becomes thicker and it is possible to appreciate the thick wooded component mostly with holm oak, hornbeam and fragno.

Along the way there are some coal and liming pits, ancient evidence of past civilizations. The trail does not present any particular difficulties and the route in this order is mainly downhill, therefore pretty fast.

The best season to face it is certainly autumn, which makes the colors of the forest magical and covers the ground with leaves and cyclamen.”

Walk along the Podolica path

“In this section the path intersects some old transhumance paths for grazing, as well as several large specimens of fragno and terebinth. The name of the path is linked to an ancient bovine breed, the "podolica", still bred today in the territory of Martina Franca. The Podolica is the most rustic of the Italian breeds and probably comes from Podolia (Ukrainian region). After the fall of the Roman Empire it spread along the Adriatic coast from Veneto to Puglia."
